How To Make Greek Pizza With A Homemade Crust

Topped with a delicious olive oil-based dressing, feta cheese, olives, onion and tomatoes, Greek pizza is a lovely break from traditional red sauce and mozzarella pizza. Did you know you can make this enticing pizza in the comfort of your own home? Here's how:

Ingredients

For the crust:

  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 2 cups bread flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons active, dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon good quality olive oil

For the pizza topping:

  • ½ cup of your favorite Greek salad dressing
  • 1 cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • ½ cup black olive, sliced
  • ½ cup tomatoes, diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • ½ cup red onion, sliced thinly

Directions

  1. To make the crust, begin by dissolving the yeast in the warm water. After allowing it to rest for 5 minutes, add the remaining ingredients, except for ½ cup flour, to the bowl. Stir well to form a soft dough, and then gradually add the remaining flour until a medium-firm dough ball forms.
  2. Sprinkle a little extra flour on a hard surface, and then knead the dough by hand for 10 minutes. Next, drizzle a large bowl with some additional olive oil, and place the dough inside. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, and place it in a warm place to rise for 1 hour. After an hour has passed, the dough should be doubled in size. If it is not, let it rest for an additional 15–30 minutes.
  3. Press the dough down to remove excess air bubbles. Then, use floured hands to shape it into an even ball. Place this ball on a lightly greased pizza pan to rest for 20 minutes. Then, stretch it out into a 12–14 inch circle.
  4. Drizzle the pizza crust with ¼ cup of the Greek dressing. Then, sprinkle on the feta, garlic, tomatoes, onions and olives, making sure they are all evenly distributed across the top of the pizza.
  5. Place the pizza in a 400 degree F oven, and bake it for 20 minute, or until the crust is crispy and browned on the bottom. Remove the pizza from the oven, and drizzle it with the remaining Greek dressing. If you like your pizza extra cheesy, you can also add an additional ½ cup of crumbled feta cheese to the top after removing it from the oven. Let the pizza cool slightly, slice it into wedges, and serve.
